Courses

New Zealand Cadet Corp (the army-based corp) is one of the three corps that make up the New Zealand Cadet Forces. The others being the Air Training Corp (Air Force based) and the Sea Cadet Corp (Navy based). Up until relatively recently, the three corps were seperate from each other in their courses, their camps and their unit activities. However, Cadet Forces merged the courses and now all courses are tri-corps. This enables all cadets, regardless of corp, to go on any course they wish. In addition to Cadet Courses, once a cadet has decided to continue with the unit as an adult, or an adult/parent wishes to significantly contribute, there are Officer Courses run by the NZCF.
As all courses are Authorised Activites and their funding is sponsered by RF cost centres, there is no cost to either the Cadets or their Units to attend.

Courses are held during the school holidays and are staffed by suitably qualified Cadet Officers.

Each of the 3 Areas holds their own Junior and Senior Leadership Courses and the Outdoor Leadership and Advanced Leaders Courses are National Courses.

There are 2 Outdoor Leader Courses each year, one held at Dip Flat (inland from Blenheim) in January and one held at Waiouru in April.

The Advanced Leaders Course has been held in Auckland but because the number of cadets wanting to attend has increased, Cadet Forces are considering holding another course in the South Island.

Eligibility criteria for these courses is listed elsewhere on this site.
