Cadet Courses

What courses can a cadet go on? There are several courses that cadets from any corp can go on and the course prerequisites are listed below. Once a cadet has satisfied these prerequisites, he completes a Course Nomination form which the Unit Commander sends it to their respective Area Co-ordinator - for North Shore, it is the Northern Area Co-Ordinator. The Area Co-ordinator and advisors then select the attendees for the courses dependant on the number of nominations and their priority number and the course capacity. The cadet and their unit are then be notified of their acceptance (or not). There are no costs to the cadet for these courses as they are supported by different RF cost centres. Courses are held in the school holidays.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

 

 

Junior Leaders Course

1.         Consideration will be given to Cadets, who must:

 

a.         be recommended by their Cadet Unit Commander;

 

b.         have completed the first year and a half (60 Parades) from the  syllabus of the Training Manual;

 

c.         be a minimum age of 15 years at the start of course; and

 

d.         be under the age of 18 years at the completion of the course.

 

Senior Leaders Course

2.         Consideration will be given to Cadets, who must:

 

a.         have qualified on a Junior Leaders Course not less than eight months prior to the commencement date of the nominated course;

 

b.         have completed the second year syllabus of the Training Manual;

 

c.         be a minimum age of 16 years at the start of course;

 

d.         be under the age of 18 years at the completion of the course; and

e.         be considered by their Cadet Unit Commander to have the potential to carry out those duties expected of a Senior Leader within a Cadet Unit.

Advanced Leaders Course

 

3.         Consideration will be given to all Cadets, who must:

 

a.         be a minimum age of 17 years at the start of course;

b.         have qualified on the Senior Leaders Courses not less than six months prior to the commencement date of the Advanced Leaders Course;

c.         have completed the third year syllabus of the Training Manual;

 

d.         be recommended by their Cadet Unit Commander;

 

e.         be recommended by the Area Co-ordinator; and

 

f.          be a minimum of substantive S/Sgt (E).

 

Junior Outdoor Leaders Course

4.         Consideration will be given to all Cadets, who must:

 

a.         have completed the second year syllabus of the Training Manual;

 

b.         must be medically fit and physically capable of completing the training;

 

c.         have successfully completed the Junior Leaders Course; and

 

d.         be under the age of 18 years at the completion of the course.

 

Senior Outdoor Leaders Course

4.         Consideration will be given to all Cadets, who must:

a.         be a minimum age of 18 years at start of course;

 

b.         have completed the third year syllabus of the Training Manual;

 

c.         must be medically fit and physically capable of completing the training;

 

d.         be under the age of 20 years at the completion of the course;

 

e.         have successfully completed the Junior Outdoor Leaders Course;

 

f.          have qualified on the Senior Leaders Courses;

 

g.         have no less than 10 days experience on day tramps or fixed camps; and

h.         additional experience of no less than 5 days as a leader or co-leader on such trips is required.

 

Shooting Coaches Course

5.         Consideration will be given to all Cadets who have:

 

a.         successfully completed the Second year syllabus of the Training Manual;

 

b          successfully completed the Seniors Leaders Course; and

 

c.         obtained the rank of S/Sgt (E) or above.
